The Soviet-Afghan War 1979 December
At the end of 1979 the Soviet Union send thousands of troops to Afghanistan to take complete control of Afghanistan's army. They also took major parts of Afghanistan's land and took over politically too. When Afghanistan killed Amin and replaced him with Babrak Kamal as head the Afghanistan government. All of the Afghanistan citizens that were against this joined the Mujahdeen. It was now a battle between Mujahdeen and the Soviet Union. The Mujahdeen were not as equipped as the Soviet Union was, they had old riffles and new the mountains and terrain very well, while the Soviet Union gassed, bombed and napalmed them using the same tactic as USA did in the Vietnam war. By 1982 Mujahdeen controlled over 75% of Afghanistan. The war ended at 1989 with the Soviet Union withdrew all troops.
InvolvementThe United states did not do much during the Soviet-Afghan war. USA supplied Mujahdeen with non lethal aid like communication devices and humanitarian aid. USA the stepped there game up and gave Afghanistan there new FIM-92 Stinger this was a anti aircraft rocket launcher that was highly effective and would take down millions of dollars worth of soviet aircrafts. There plan was too keep on helping the Mujahdeen until the Soviet Union would surrender or leave.
